she's got sores on the back of her legs, and i've noticed her belly, chest, between her legs and between her toes are red again too. She'd been on predisone one pill every day but the vet wanted us to decrease it to once every 2-3 days. Guess i'm going to bump it back up to one pill every day. Its always something with this girl, I dont know what these sores are on her back legs.

Where does she sleep or spend most of the day??
I am guessing it could be something along these lines????

Those look pretty raw. I would vet her rather than kicking up the steroids. Those are bad meds to mess around with.

Poor Kati cry Grass allergies? I see the green on her hair. Sorry I have no good advice but I think I'd take her in to the vet too or at least talk to them on the phone.

It concerns me that these sores all appear to be located directly on 'pressure' points--places that come in direct contact with the ground and floor surfaces when she's lying down--and they look suspiciously like decubitous ulcers, which are more commonly known as bedsores. I have to agree with policemom on this--I think a trip to the vet is in order, with or without the increase in steroids, because if she IS developing decubitous ulcers, it means her skin is breaking down for some reason...and that sounds like there may be more afoot with her than just allergies (like lupus or some other autoimmune-related disorder).

ok, thanks guys. I'll give the vet a call and see when we can get it. I've been thinking about taking her back in anyways since her skin is still red. I was concerned about the sores as well since they were raw looking. Mike she has free run of the house all day so she sleeps wherever she wants, usually on the bed or sofa, but also sometimes on the floor.

she goes to the vet at 4 today. I think we're seeing the new vet who works there that we've never seen before so we'll see what she says....

well we got back from the vet. Kati's allergies are flaring up again so the vet put her back on predisone and refilled her prescription for it. She said the sores on the back of her legs may be from her sitting down, and since her skin is inflamed and irritated from the allergies made it easier for the sores to develop.

maris, she's been on them since last month. the vet didnt seem to worried about the sores, just thinks they are from her sitting down and her skin already been irritated and inflamed make it easier for the sores to start, she said the pred will reduce the inflamation and irritation and help everything heal. i hope so, this poor girl, its one thing after another with her

Look into Atopica for chronic allergies.

be careful with the pred - long-term use of pred, or even daily short-term, can really cause problems down the road - pred is an easy-fix for vets, it often is a "miracle cure" but down the road can cause bigger problems. It's a really bad drug to be giving a young dog - consider other options before continuing on pred for long.

Just wondering if you use the Swiffer cleaning solution? I was at the vet with Lily and a poodle had several sores on his hind quarters and the back area of all 4 legs. They [owner & vet] have finally concluded that it was from the floor's cleaning solvent.

Just a thought....

the vet said that she shouldnt have any probs being on the pred through the summer months if thats all she needed it, but now i'm worried, i dont want to do more harm then good to her, she's been on it since end of may or beginnig of june. started out one twice a day for 3 days then one once a day for 3 days then one every other day and worked down to one every 2-3 days which didnt really work when we got that low. when she gave us another prescription for it it started out one twice a day then one once a day and then one every other day. she's been on it again and i noticed last night she's got some little red areas in between her back legs that look kinda like zits, shouldnt the pred be keeping anything else from popping up? And the sores on her back legs look like they are trying to heal, but it looked like there was another smaller one starting to form, the vet didnt seem to concerned about them when i showed her the ones on her back legs when we were there though, and the zit looking things werent there.
The vet kinda steered us away from the Atopica because she said for a dog her size it was going to be very expensive. The other alternative she said we could do, but she'd really only reccommend it if kati was going to need to be on pred more then a few seasons is the allergy test, and that was going to run $350-450.
yes i use the swiffer cleaning solution for my kitchen floors sometimes. i dont use it that often, and the floors are always dry before the dogs are allowed back on them (dont want to have muddy footprints on the floor before it gets a chance to dry lol)
i've always liked this vet whenever we've seen her, she loves kati and is really good with her, but i dont want to her kati in the long run..
