Man, it's been some trying times getting here, but I'm overjoyed to announce the arrival of 5 beautiful puppies on Friday afternoon & evening. Two boys and three girls. I couldn't believe it because I honestly did not think she had more than 2 or 3; she was a LOT bigger with her last litter of 7.
This is officially my first litter, and they will be naturally reared (ie: no chemicals/pesticides/vaccines, and fed a raw diet).
For anyone interested, the pedigree can be viewed at http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/658027.html.

Kristen, beautiful pups, keep us posted.
F1, I'm sure Kristen will reply, but I'd like to add my reply. Because she can.
As you said, you are not a breeder, so here is my experience with non titled parents: my Police Service Dog was from two untitled parents which the breeder felt would produce and they did. The breeding was carefully thought out and the result was 11-13 pups who excelled in Police, SAR, home protection, executive protection and good'ol family pet. My PSD was OFA Excellent.
So, not always is breeding titled parents a guarantee of quality dogs and vice-versa.
As long as the breeder clears the dogs of good health screening, the structure is sound, and has sound temperament that is key. _________________ "We don't run from a "fight", we run to it"

F1, that's a valid question, and one that I, myself, would have asked not that long ago.
Honestly? I know that the female produces. This is her third litter. There is no point in trying to get her titled now; today is her 8th birthday.
I have no problem whatsoever letting someone who is interested in seeing her work, or in working her (if they are a qualified helper), do so. Do you know Dan Cox? I only ask because of where you got Gnash from. He has worked her, and, in fact, we tried to breed her to his dog, Chuck, last year, but it did not take. Dan and I are still in touch; in fact, he called me yesterday to ask how things were going.
Pan was recommended to me by the owner of the stud dog that I was going to use, because his (titled & world team competitor) male was unavailable for breeding when Deja was ready. Additionally, Pan's owner has actually worked many of the top name dogs in both pedigrees (back in the day LoL), so he has an idea about what this breeding should bring to the table.
Pan was ready for his SchH 1 when the breeding took place, but because of the heat & humidity where they live, his owner opted to wait until the weather cools off to take him to trial.
If I've learned anything over the past, oh, we'll say year and a half, it's that titles most certainly do not make the dog. _________________ Kristen

Hey it's a free country and there are no title restrictions, breed away. While I agree that titles do not make the dog, especially if you send the dog away to get titled but I also strongly believe that by titling yourself (HOT) you uncover a lot of weaknesses that remain hidden while just training/working the dog. Wishing the best and hope the litter does super. Our club believes in the following motto,
"Conformation indicates what the dog appears to be!"
"Pedigree indicates what the dog should be!"
"Performance indicates what the dog actually is!"
...and what better way to judge performance than to title the dog yourself and see if you can qualify for the Nationals... then there is no need to make excuses. _________________

"Performance indicates what the dog actually is!"
'Performance' doesn't necessarily have to mean competition. _________________ Kristen

Breeding her back to back is performance indeed but not the type of performance I was referring to _________________

Back to back? Her last litter was born in May of 2008.
However, there's nothing wrong with doing a back to back breeding providing the bitch is in top physical condition, healthy, and well taken care of. It's actually better to do back to back breedings, due to the deteriorating effects of progesterone on the uterus, and the risk of pyometra, especially with an older bitch.
That's a topic for a new discussion, though. _________________ Kristen

Thank you all for keeping the conversation polite and civil - no problem with constructive criticism - I enjoy the different opinions and outlooks as well as having my own ideas. Thanks all - congrats on your litter!
